New administration kills border wall on day one
The Biden administration is already fueling a new migration catastrophe by stopping construction of the border wall, former Customs and Border Protection chief Mark Morgan has warned.
Morgan, who served as chief of Border Patrol under President Obama and most recently as acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection in the Trump administration, blasted President Biden over his decision to suspend the wall project on his first day in office.
“Our country is less safe today than it was the day before because of President Biden,” Morgan told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.
“By doing this … the border patrol agents defending it are less safe. It’s outrageous. And I hope every American citizen in this country pays attention to what’s coming next.”
Morgan asserted the president is “putting politics ahead of public safety,” pointing out Biden previously voted in favor of building a border fence when he was a senator in 2006.
“It was hailed then as something very effective to safeguard our nation’s border, but now, all of a sudden, it’s not needed. It’s hypocrisy and it’s unbelievable. That’s what worries me,” Morgan said.
“This is just one step further to fueling the perception, and the reality, that our borders are going to be open. It is driving the next illegal immigration crisis – one that will pale in comparison to 2019 if they continue with these policies.”
On Wednesday, President Biden signed a proclamation pausing the border wall build and diverting funds allocated for it to other ventures.
“Like every nation, the United States has a right and a duty to secure its borders and protect its people against threats,” the order states. “But building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution. It is a waste of money that diverts attention from genuine threats to our homeland security.”
“It shall be the policy of my Administration that no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall.”
Under President Trump, over 450 miles of new border wall system were built and funding for over 350 more miles had already been approved.
